Javed Akhtar calls Indian songs vulgar, praises Pakistani music [ARY News] 22 Jan, 2015

Bollywood’s award-winning lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar seems to be miffed with the current bollywood music. The lyricist refused to give lyrics to the bawdy Indian songs. While attending a session  “Gaata Jaye Banjara: Film songs- Urdu, Hindi, Hindustani” at Jaipur Literature festival 2015 on 21st January Javed Akhtar said There is so much vulgarity today. When you can protest against something illegal and even at stupidity then why there is no protest against vulgarity?” Jave Akhtar described the transformation of Hindi music by saying ‘elements of goodness’ do not even exist in today’s music. The songs with good lyrics that were made decades ago are staying evergreen as they were well written. He said the songs earlier used to have sensibility and human values but that all have vanished now. While comparing the Indian music with Pakistani contemporary music he said ghazals and other traditional music formats are still flourishing in Pakistan whilst in India vulgarity has taken the place of good music. The 70-year-old writer who also launched the French version of his book ‘In Other Word’ said “There is no dearth of talent in our country. However, literature, poetry, art and traditional music have not been on the priority list of people. But now there seems some kind of resurgence, in younger people,”   Javed Akhtar calls Indian songs vulgar, praises Pakistani music was last modified: January 22nd, 2015 by Hira Stay updated on the latest happenings with ARY’s mobile apps.
