Users are experiencing an Internet slowdown in Pakistan since yesterday evening. The countrywide slow internet is due to International cable rupture near Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. The 25,000 Kilometer long Asia-Europe AAE-1 Double Cable has been cut underwater near Fujairah. It is one of the six international cables that connects Pakistan to the Internet. It may take several days to repair the cable. Till then, authorities are trying to shift the traffic to other lower-capacity internet cables.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authorities also provides details on the matter. Claiming that they are fully aware of the disruption and making alternate arrangements for uninterrupted data supply to the country. Meanwhile, Internet Service providers are informing their users about the issue. The authorities do not provide a certain period of time for repair. It may take days or even weeks to fully restoring the cable rupture.
Asia-Africa-Europe 1, or AAE-1, is a submarine cable that connects Asia, Africa, and Europe. It connects Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy, and France across a distance of 25,000 kilometers. It caters to the majority of data traffic and the disruption is causing Internet slowdown in Pakistan.
