Sri lankan President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa along with his wife and two bodyguards has fled the country. The news was confirmed by Sri Lankan Air Force. Rajapaksa was majorly criticized due to its handling of the economic crises. He has left for the Maldives before the resignation he was to submit. A state of emergency has been installed in the country by the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe. In a parliament, speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene has appointed, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe as the new acting president.
A storm of protestors gathered in the residences of both the figurehead including the president and Prime minister in Colombo on Saturday. Sri Lanka is on an edge of an extreme shortage of food, fuel, and other supplies. The protestors gathered to call for the resignation of President Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. The situation that went out of hand has invited security personnel to use fired tear gas and water cannons.
