Pakistan considering Afghanistan and Iran to import vegetables

As the country is facing political crises where almost one-third of the country is under water. Due to the devastating flood under the monsoon spell of 2022. The flood has affected more than 20 million people making several fatalities and numerous homeless in rural areas. The country is facing a shortage of edible items as an excessive amount of crops and vegetables has been damaged.

In a meeting that was chaired by Naveed Qamar, Minister of Commerce. The meeting addressed the nationwide demand for these crops, the session voted to facilitate the import of onions and tomatoes from Afghanistan and Iran. Participants predicted that there will be a tomato and onion shortage in the nation during the following three months. 

Earlier, Qamar had also emphasized the importance of taking quick action to make tomatoes and onions available to consumers. As the prices have skyrocketed due to the flood. Due to a lack of supply in the market as a result of recent floods, the price of onions and tomatoes has reached Rs 300 per kg.
