Global Chip Shortage: Intel CEO Makes Big Claim

Global Chip Shortage is Taking a Toll on Automotive and Tech industry. When it comes to when the shortage will end, the computer industry’s biggest names seems split. The more hopeful forecast is for the second half of next year. While the more pessimistic, and arguably more realistic, forecast is for 2023.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger makes a big projection. He claims that the gaming CPU and graphics card shortages may endure until 2023. A global chip shortage is currently affecting manufacturers of everything from autos to smartphones.

While Gelsinger believes that the semiconductor shortages that have plagued the IT industry will ease slightly over time, he does not expect that a “supply-demand equilibrium” will be achieved until 2023. The company claims that demand for its PCs is still strong, with particular strength in commercial, desktop, and higher-end consumer notebooks.

Lisa Su, AMD’s president, and CEO acknowledges that the shortage will not be remedied this year, but predicts that it will improve in 2022. She also warns that the situation will gradually improve, and we cannot expect a quick fix. According to a recent analysis, supply chain bottlenecks and continuing logistic issues are resulting in the Global chip shortage.
