WhatsApp Privacy Policy Updated After Hefty Fine

WhatsApp Privacy Policy updated in Europe. In reaction to the Data Protection Commission’s (DPC) conclusions that it had broken data protection standards earlier this year. Whatsapp’s privacy policies have been revised for Ireland and the rest of Europe. The policy for users in other countries who use WhatsApp will remain the same for now.

The Meta-owned Instant messaging App was fined 225m for the infringements. The DPC order WhatsApp to take a number of corrective actions to address the flaws with its privacy policy. The messaging service, owned by Facebook parent Meta, claims to have met these requirements, with the updated privacy policy going into effect today.

The WhatsApp also shared information on third-party services and why data is exchanged across borders. However, it stated that the adjustments will have no impact on how the messaging service functions or processes user data.

However, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, among other such platforms, are still under fire for their privacy standards and commitment to online safety. Apart from the new WhatsApp privacy policy, the Instant messaging App also rolls out two new safety features called Message Level Reporting and Flash Calls.

WhatsApp Message Level Reporting

Users will be able to report accounts to the app using the newly added Message level reporting capability. The new functionality allows users to mark a single message for WhatsApp. You can report or block a person by long-pressing on a specific message. You can save a few clicks by using this option. It helps in barring someone who you don’t want to disturb you by sending a random message.

WhatsApp Flash Call

Whatsapp Flash call is an Android function that is yet to roll out for iOS users. Instead of receiving an SMS, customers who are installing or reinstalling WhatsApp on a new phone will receive an automated call to verify their phone number. Flash calls, according to the App, are a lot safer option than sending OTP via SMS.
