Aishwarya Rai Was the Original Choice for Anjali in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Says Karan Johar

Director Karan Johar reveals that Kajol wasn’t initially the first choice for the role of Anjali in the iconic film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. According to a report by News 18, Karan Johar had initially considered Aishwarya Rai for the role.

In an interview with Komal Nahta, the renowned director of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai shared, “When I was casting for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, I learned that Kajol wouldn’t be able to do the film due to her marriage and the possibility of starting a family.”

Karan further explained, “I decided to approach Aishwarya for the role. However, on that day, at 3 p.m., I went to Kajol’s studio, thinking she would decline and we would part ways with some tears. I was saddened because Kajol had already worked with me.”

To Karan’s surprise, Kajol expressed her desire to be a part of the film. He said, “I don’t know what changed, but Kajol actually wanted to do the film. So, I didn’t go to meet Aishwarya. But Aishwarya remained my original choice, and from there on, the ‘missing’ journey began.”

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, a beloved film by Karan Johar, featured a stellar cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor.

This revelation adds an interesting twist to the backstory of the film, highlighting the dynamics of casting decisions and the unexpected turn of events that led to Kajol ultimately playing the role of Anjali in this iconic Bollywood movie.
