US President Joe Biden has described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach to the war in Gaza as a mistake.

In an interview, he called on Israel to agree to a ceasefire.

He said Gaza should have total access to all food and medicine for the next six to eight weeks.

Joe Biden said it is outrageous how the aid organisation's vehicles had been hit by drones and taken out on a highway.

Meanwhile, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, in a speech hinted the country could recognise Palestinian statehood to increase momentum towards peace.

She said international community is now considering the question of Palestinian statehood as a way of building momentum towards a two-state solution.
