These Illustrations Perfectly Elaborate Toxic Marriage Culture In Pakistan

The marriage is a blessing for not just the couple but also for their families. However, there are some obsessions or norms in our societythat make it toxic.

Mahnoor Ahmad, the Pakistani illustrator perfectly highlighted the toxic marriage culture in Pakistan through her amazing illustrations.

It is so weird that from the colour of skin to salaries, each aspect of person’s life is scrutinized during the process they are getting married. A boy can be rejected for having low salary, or for having short height.

Similarly, a girl can face a rejection over her dark complexion, good job, or higher qualification. However, these practices can damage people in several ways.

Below, you can check some fabulous illustrations from Mahnoor Ahmad.

A boy who doesnt have a 'standardised’ job and is still struggling at the young age of 26 but want to marry your daughter is not considered serious and its always called off by pressurising our own children. In fact his confidence is shattered because he dont have his own car or a lot of property he is considered not suitable for the girl. And on the other side the girl who is educated, financially independent and having a secure job with a good future ahead is also not approved by our society because she is considered too independent, couldnt be moulded, very strong headed and dont come forward as a home maker. This is the sickness of our society, leading our new generation to depression, anxiety and self harm. Why cant we make life easy? Why cant we make marriages easy? Why cant we grow together? Why cant we gradually buy a car of our own, a house of our own and build our lives together after being married? Why do a boy have to earn a big salary, support his family until all of his sisters have been married off and then he is considered. And for girls why is her high education is seen as more years to her age? Why her strong career choices is seen as lack of adjusting after marriage? What does her skin colour and height has to do with her worth? THIS HAS TO STOP! Stop making marriages such a hard thing. Make them easy. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #rishtaparade #cupoftea #tea #chae #procreate #pakistaniculture #indianartists #indianculture #culturalstereotypes #breakingstereotypes #stereotypes #stereoscopic #illustrationsofinstagram #illustrationoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #artistsoninstagram #instaart #instaartist #instagood #marriagestory #womenrights #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen #menfeminists #menofpakistan #problemsamanface #womeninspiringwomen #empoweredwomen #logkyakahenge #illustrationoftheday

View this post on Instagram So i heard that fair & lovely is changing its name after the backlash.. but what about it still being used as a whitening cream with bleaching agents and harsh chemicals? What about people still buying it to get a 'clear' complexion? What about still setting up standards for our future generations to come and learn that dark skin is not pretty or attractive? Why we are still stuck with the so called standards of beauty? Why do we prefer fair girl over a dark skinned beautiful girl? How does the amount of melanin present in our skin decides our fates! . . . . . . . . . . . . #procreate #procreateartwork #fairandlovely #banfairandlovely #colour #skincolour #darkskin #beautiful #logkyakahenge #blm #womenempowerment #womenoftheworld #womenofillustration #womanistan #love #womensupportingwomen #womeninspiringwomen #womenempoweringwomen #empoweringwomen #blackwomen #blackandwhite #beautystandards #beautystandardssuck #superficial #grow #life #pakistaniculture #pakistaniwedding #illustrators #illustrationsofinstagram

View this post on Instagram Part 1 'Rishta Parade 'THE CHAI CULTURE' coming soon.. LETS BREAK THIS. This is a series of posters, would be uploading gradually about how this chae culture is ruining our society. Where the fate of so many girls is decided on a cup of tea. Just one cup of tea will decide whether or not the girl is acceptable for marriage, a single cup of tea will decide is she smart enough, is she beautiful enough, and if she is some where near the perimeters of perfection set by our society they will take her. And by taking her doesnt mean that they will accept her as their family member or daughter then comes the big trial, the test of her life for eternity. Lets break this culture together, lets put an end to this culture. Lets not decide someones daughters fate over a cup of tea. Lets put an effort to see what she dreams of, what she is passionate about, how amazingly educated and independent she is and then see if your own son is somewhere near a match for her. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #breakingstereotypes #stereotypes #indianculture #indianartist #artistsofinstagram #pakistanculture #pakistaniculture #tea #rishtaparade #rishtahunt #bridehunting #rishtauntie #mrskhan #breaktherules #breakingstereotypes #breakinggenerationalcurses #culture #illustratorsoninstagram #illustratorsofinstagram #artistsoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #illustrationsofinstagram #illustree #platformforartists #womanistan #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen #women #strongwomen #overcomingstereotypes #logkyakahenge #procreate

View this post on Instagram THE BLIND TRUST part 5 The RISHTA AUNTY, who are they? Do you know them closely? Are they your family friends or some close relative? If yes, then its okay to make decisions of your children’s life based on their opinions and trust. But all the other RISHTA AUNTIES for whom its all just a business; your life, your marriage is just a bundle of money for them, then NO! You shouldnt be trusting them at all. I have seen so many of these 'con aunties' who are creepy, materialistic, rude and they feast on our parents worries. They will conveniently tell your parents that your daughter/son is short or dark thats why there is no good proposal for them. Or they will easily tell you to smile less because they think you have big teeth. Or they will ask your parents to dont discuss 'certain things' which are very important to your life which can affect your whole life if not discussed beforehand. Its already so scary for anyone to go and sit in front of a whole bunch of people who are totally strangers judging and evaluating each and everything in you and they top it up by adding in some minute changes (which can cause a bigger effect in future if not discussed). Our parents being pressurised by the society, fall prey to these kind of RISHTA AUNTIES who are running a whole business based on this and their only goal is to make some money out of your misery and fix you with any one just for the sake of some bucks. They dont have any interest in whether the families will be appropriate for eachother, or they have anything in common they just do it. THIS NEEDS TO STOP! And if God forbid something goes wrong afterwards they are very much okay with blaming our own sons/daughters for it. . . . #rishtaparade #cupoftea #tea #chae #procreate #pakistaniculture #indianartists #indianculture #culturalstereotypes #breakingstereotypes #stereotypes #stereoscopic #illustrationsofinstagram #illustrationoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #artistsoninstagram #instaart #instaartist #instagood #girl #womenrights #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen #women #womenofpakistan #womensprogress2019 #womeninspiringwomen #empoweredwomen #logkyakahenge #illustrationoftheday
