Editor of Daily Express, Tahir Najmi, Passes Away: A Loss to the Journalism Industry

Tahir Najmi, the editor of Daily Express, passed suddenly on Friday after a brief illness, according to reports.

Najmi played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Daily Express newspaper as one of its founding team members. He remained involved in various journalist organizations and served as the secretary of both the Karachi Press Club and the Karachi Union of Journalists.

The senior journalist participated in the journalistic struggle over Zia-ul-Haq, the military leader of the time. Najmi was detained and confined in Sukkur Jail during the uprising against Zia.

The president, the prime minister, the governor of Sindh, and the chief minister of Sindh all expressed their profound sadness at his passing.

The Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, conveyed his condolences and expressed his grief over Najmi’s passing, acknowledging his esteemed reputation in the field of journalism. He also offered his prayers and hoped for the deceased’s family to find the strength to cope with their loss.

Offering his sympathies, the Information Minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, praised the late journalist as someone who dedicated his life to advocating for the freedom of expression, citing his unwavering principles and steadfastness.

After Friday prayers, his funeral prayers were held at Jamia Masjid in Bahria Town, Karachi, at 1:30 pm. Then he will be laid to rest at a neighboring cemetery.
