Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, has announced that a new CEO will be taking over Twitter in six weeks, while he transitions to the role of executive chair and chief technology officer (CTO). In a tweet on Thursday, Musk expressed his excitement about the new appointment, stating that he will oversee product, software, and sysops in his new role.
Although Musk did not reveal the name of the incoming CEO, The Wall Street Journal has reported that Linda Yaccarino, the head of advertising at NBCUniversal, is currently in talks for the position.
Musk had previously revealed his intention to step down as CEO and replace himself with a new chief executive by the end of 2023. However, he has accelerated this timeline with the appointment of the new CEO.
In addition to the CEO announcement, Musk has also stated that Twitter will be purging inactive accounts on the platform that have been inactive for years, which could potentially free up a number of long-coveted usernames. This move could lead to a drop in follower count for some users.
