The Lahore High Court (LHC) has signaled its intention to increase the fine for motorcyclists caught without helmets from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000. During a recent hearing, Justice Shahid Kareem directed the City Traffic Police Lahore to establish new rules, with the court ready to issue an official order accordingly. The court believes that imposing this substantial fine will enhance compliance among bikers.

To raise awareness about helmet usage, the court instructed the police to conduct a ten-day campaign before implementing the new rules. The campaign aims to educate the public about the crucial role of helmets in ensuring road safety.

The Lahore Traffic Police has already taken stringent measures against helmetless motorcyclists. In just nine days, they issued an astonishing 152,888 challans and seized over 38,000 motorcycles across Lahore. Fines have been imposed on 23,767 violators. This proactive approach seeks to create awareness among riders and promote responsible behavior on the roads.

Mustansar Feroze, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, emphasized the importance of strict compliance with traffic laws, particularly regarding helmets. The department’s primary goal is to ensure public safety. Feroze urged citizens to understand the significance of wearing helmets as a vital means of protecting themselves and their loved ones from potential accidents and injuries.

In a resolute move, the CTO instructed the traffic police to intensify their crackdown on helmetless motorcyclists throughout Lahore. The department will take strict legal action against repeat violators. This strong approach serves as a deterrent and underscores the Lahore Traffic Police’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of all road users.

The LHC plans to increase fines and the police are working hard. Helmet usage is expected to rise. Public awareness and responsible road behavior will make riding safer in Lahore.
