On the auspicious occasion of the first day of the new Islamic year, marked by the beginning of Muharram al-Haram, an important event took place at the Kaaba in Makkah. According to Arab media reports, the Kiswa, the ornate covering, underwent a ceremonial change.

The process of changing the Kiswa commenced after the Isha prayer and efficiently completed within a span of 3 to 4 hours. Crafted with meticulous care, the Kiswa skillfully sewn and woven using exquisite silk, gold, and silver threads. This year, the new Kiswa was prepared at a noteworthy cost exceeding 200 million Saudi riyals.

To ensure the utmost security during this significant event, protective barriers strategically placed around the Kaaba. The skilled artisans carefully removed the previous Kiswa, employing electronic lifts to elevate the new covering to its rightful place. The spectacle attracted a multitude of spectators who were fortunate to witness this sacred tradition.

Adorned with intricately written Quranic verses in gold and silver, the Kiswa changing of the Kaaba is a magnificent sight to behold. Comprised of 16 distinct pieces, it spans an impressive length of 50 feet with a width ranging from 35 to 40 feet.

Traditionally, the changing of the Kiswa used to occur on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah each year. However, since last year, this time-honored ritual has shifted to the first day of Muharram, continuing the legacy. This alteration ensures that the commencement of the Islamic calendar commemorated with reverence and splendor.
