Government Announces Holiday on 9 and 10 Muharram

The Federal government has issued an official notification declaring holidays for Ashura on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

In a recent announcement, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that the crescent for Muharram not sighted on the expected date. As a result, Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th day of Muharram, will observed on Saturday, July 29, throughout the country.

This significant Islamic event holds historical and religious importance, as it marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, with the commencement of Hijri year 1445. Muslims worldwide commemorate this occasion with solemnity, reflecting on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) at the Battle of Karbala.

After holding a meeting in Quetta on Tuesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee made the official announcement that the crescent for Muharram not sighted. As a result, they have confirmed the date of Youm-e-Ashur to fall on Saturday, July 29.

With the official notification in place, the entire nation will observe Youm-e-Ashur on July 29. This day will be marked with various religious rituals, processions, and gatherings in mosques, imambargahs, and other places of worship. Devout Muslims will engage in fasting, prayer, and remembrance of Imam Hussain’s (RA) sacrifice, seeking to derive spiritual enlightenment and a deepened connection to their faith.
