Today marks the beginning of the highly anticipated farewell session of the National Assembly, as President Arif Alvi formally convenes separate sessions for both houses of Parliament. This momentous occasion set to pave the way for significant changes in the country’s political landscape.
According to a notification issued by the National Assembly secretariat, the lower house gather at 5 pm on July 20th, while the upper house scheduled to meet on July 24, 2023. This strategic arrangement aims to streamline the proceedings and address important legislative matters effectively.
The President’s decision to call these sessions was based on a summary sent by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to the Prime Minister. Upon receiving the recommendation, the Prime Minister swiftly directed the President to convene the sessions, emphasizing the importance of this event in shaping the nation’s future.
During these sessions, members from both houses will play a crucial role in passing new laws, with a particular focus on electoral reforms. This early dissolution comes as a result of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) recent meetings, where they collectively decided to dissolve the National Assembly ahead of the originally scheduled date, August 12. With the political landscape about to undergo significant changes, the country is bracing itself for a momentous election year.
