The Met Office has issued a warning of upcoming heavy rains in Lahore and several areas of Punjab on Monday. With temperatures expected to reach a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius and a low of 27 degrees Celsius, residents urged to brace themselves for potentially severe weather conditions.

This forecast comes in the wake of last week’s incessant rainfall, which wreaked havoc in the country’s second-largest city. Lahore witnessed traffic jams, waterlogged roads, and tragically, some casualties. Unfortunately, the situation unlikely to improve anytime soon, as the current weather system anticipated to bring further rainfall this week.

Furthermore, there is a potential risk of landslides in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period.

Flash flooding also expected in various regions, including Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, and Rawalpindi/Islamabad from July 23rd to July 26th. Additionally, areas like Dera Ghazi Khan and the northeast & south Balochistan (Quetta, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kohlu, Shirani, Harnai, Bolan, Loralai, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, Pasni, Ormara, Gwadar, and surrounding regions) may experience torrential rain on July 23rd and 24th.

Sindh cities, including Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Karachi, and Hyderabad, also expected to face rainfall.

According to the PMD, monsoon currents are continuously penetrating the country from the Bay of Bengal, and an upper-level westerly trough is affecting the northern parts of Pakistan.

Residents and authorities in the affected regions advised to take necessary precautions and be vigilant during this period of heavy rainfall. Proper preparedness can help mitigate the impact of the rains and ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the affected areas.
