UAE Golden Visas Gain Momentum in ‘Skilled Professional’

The UAE’s coveted Golden Visa program is witnessing a surge in interest within the ‘skilled professional’ category, with experts noting its quicker processing and easier application process. James Swallow, Commercial Director at PRO Partner Group, highlighted that the rise in demand for this category is largely due to existing labor records with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, streamlining the process.

Unlike the previous emphasis on property investments for visa eligibility, the current trend shows a growing number of highly skilled individuals seeking long-term residency. Industries such as technology, digital services, retail, and hospitality are contributing to a thriving job market, especially in middle to senior management roles. This influx of talent is also linked to new business launches and the resulting need for more Golden Visas.

For skilled professionals, the required documents are readily accessible, such as previous visa records, Emirates ID, and bank account details. Essential paperwork includes an attested university degree, UAE health insurance, a salary certificate, valid work contract, and a minimum of five years’ experience in the same role.

In contrast, the investment category demands a more complex documentation process. Applicants pursuing real estate investments must provide a letter from the relevant Emirate’s Land Department confirming ownership of a property valued at Dh2 million or more. For properties acquired through mortgages, additional statements and letters from local banks are necessary. Investors are advised to consider property valuations, especially if market fluctuations affect equity levels.

The processing timeline for pre-approval in the investor category typically spans around two weeks, followed by the standard two-week turnaround for the visa and Emirates ID issuance after pre-approval completion.
