In a significant development, the University of Karachi has recently announced a 30 percent increase in fees for its upcoming academic session in 2024, affecting admissions to both Bachelor of Science (BS) and Masters programs. This decision formally approved during a meeting of the Academic Council of the University of Karachi, presided over by the esteemed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Iraqi.

One of the key changes brought about by this decision is the cancellation of the entrance test for the BS third year (formerly the old master’s program). Instead, admissions for these programs will commence on October 30, streamlining the application process for prospective students.

During the meeting, it also resolved that the University would continue to follow its existing undergraduate admission policy. Notably, the newly introduced undergraduate policy by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan will not implemented at this juncture. The latter decision has referred to a committee for further deliberation.

Dr. Khalid Iraqi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, mentioned that the committee will present its findings on the undergraduate policy in the next Academic Council meeting. This report will play a crucial role in determining whether the HEC’s new undergraduate policy will adopted, possibly starting from the academic session in 2025.

Additionally, the meeting outlined the timeline for admissions to the test-based BS program, which will initiate in two phases. The first phase, set to begin on October 30, mark the commencement of the application process, followed by tests that will conducted during the third or fourth week of November. Meanwhile, open merit admissions for BS programs and the BS third year will start in mid-November.

This decision by the University of Karachi represents a pivotal change in its admission policy and fee structure, impacting both aspiring students and the institution itself. As the academic landscape continues to evolve, these changes will shape the future educational journey of many individuals seeking to study at this esteemed institution.
