In a recent development, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has taken a stern stance against undesirable practices within the Jinnah Airport premises. Effective November 6, the CAA has imposed a ban on chewing betel leaf, betel nuts, Gutka, and smoking. This move aims to ensure a clean and hygienic environment within the airport and curb harmful practices that have plagued the premises for far too long.

Strict Measures to Enforce the Ban

The CAA has made it clear that they will not tolerate any violations of this new regulation. Individuals who indulge in smoking, chewing Gutka, Naswar, areca nut, or betel leaf within the airport boundaries will face serious consequences. The CAA administration has announced that strict actions will be taken against those found in breach of this ban.

Gutka, a preparation of chewing tobacco made of crushed areca nut, tobacco, catechu, paraffin wax, slaked lime, and sweet or savory flavorings, is particularly harmful. It not only poses health risks but also results in unsightly spitting stains throughout the airport terminal building, lifts, and corridors.

Consequences of Violation

To reinforce the seriousness of the ban, the CAA stated that the entry passes of employees caught chewing betel leaf, Gutka, or betel nuts will immediately canceled. Additionally, a fine of Rs 1000 will imposed on the offenders. These measures not limited to passengers but also apply to CAA, airline staff, and all employees of companies operating within the airport limits.

Collaborative Efforts to Maintain Cleanliness

The CAA is actively collaborating with the Airport Security Force to ensure the effective implementation of these new regulations. The goal is to maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment at the Jinnah Airport. The airport administration committed to eradicating the practice of Gutka and betel leaf spitting stains from public spaces within the airport.
