This alarming development comes as K-Electric, the city’s primary electricity provider, has formally requested a 3.02 rupees per unit rate increase.
Recent reports indicate that NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) has completed its hearings on this matter, and now the decision lies in their hands. In addition to this, there is another pressing issue on the horizon. A request to impose an extra burden of 8.37 billion rupees on the consumers of DISCOs (Distribution Companies) has been submitted and is scheduled for a hearing on November 1st.
It’s worth noting that the residents of Karachi have already experienced a 3.28 rupee increase in electricity prices during the preceding three-month period from April to June.
