UAE Green Visa For Foreign Workers Loosens Residency Requirements

The launch of UAE Green Visa for foreign workers is a new category as part of a broader measure by the Arab world to boost the economy.

The United Arab Emirates announced a new green visa thatallows foreigners to work in the country without employer’s sponsorship. Inaddition to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have recently opened theircountries to wealthy investors in order to reform their paid permanent housingprograms and property ownership laws. Officials added, “green visa”holders will be able to work without company sponsorship and support theirparents and children up to 25 years old.

In the UAE, foreigners are usually issued limited visas thatare linked to their employment and make it difficult to obtain long-termresidence. However the new visa policy allows the holder a three-month graceperiod if he loses his old job.

According to an AFP report, the country’s Minister of Statefor Foreign Trade, Thani Al-Zeyoudi, said visa target highly skilledindividuals, investors, businessmen, business people, as well as exceptionalstudents and postgraduates.

The country, meanwhile, is allowing temporary employees overthe age of 15. The UAE is rapidly expanding and diversifying its economy andreducing its reliance on oil.
