Annie Ernaux wins Nobel Literature Prize 2022

Annie Ernaux from France won a prestigious Nobel Literature Prize on Thursday. She is well known for her simple articulation of work based on class and gender. Ernaux is the 16th French writer, the first Frenchwoman, and the 17th female novelist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Ernaux, 82 years old was awarded, “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory”, the jury said. In a response to the news, Ernaux said she felt honored. Ernaux wrote 20 books that presented the life of contemporary France.

As per the Swedish Academy, her writing has strongly depicted the social issues regarding class, language, and gender. Further, it added, her work is simple in plain language. They added her courage to showcase the experience of shame, humiliation, and class, and look like that is commendable.
