Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Sweden that it should not expect his backing to join NATO following the burning of the Holy Quran outside Turkish embassy in Stockholm during a protest.

In a speech in Ankara, he said it is clear that those who caused such a disgrace in front of our country's embassy can no longer expect any benevolence from us regarding their application.

Turkish President condemned the latest protest.

Meanwhile, NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in a statement said freedom of expression is a precious commodity in NATO countries, but these acts are inappropriate.

Several Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Kuwait have also denounced the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
