The WhatsApp beta update brings a darker top app bar for Android users

WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app, is testing a new interface for its Android beta version 2.23.13.16. The new interface features a darker top app bar that contrasts with the white background of the app. This change is part of WhatsApp’s effort to adopt the Material Design 3 style, which is Google’s latest design system for Android apps.

Material Design 3 aims to create beautiful, usable, and adaptive products with dynamic colors, shapes, and animations. WhatsApp’s new interface expected to provide a more modern and consistent look for the app, which has not changed much in the past few years.

The darker top app bar is not yet available for all beta users, as it is still in development. However, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.17 update, which can downloaded from the Google Play Store, reveals that WhatsApp has more plans to improve the top app bar when using the dark theme.

As shown in the screenshot below, the top app bar in the dark theme will be much darker than the current version, creating a better contrast with the chat bubbles and icons. This change is likely to enhance the user experience and readability of the app in low-light conditions.

Some users have also expressed their desire for WhatsApp to introduce a new type of dark theme for Android devices with AMOLED screens. AMOLED screens are a type of display technology that can produce deeper blacks and more vibrant colors by turning off individual pixels when displaying black. A darker theme that uses grayscale and black colors could potentially save battery life and reduce eye strain for AMOLED users.

WhatsApp not confirmed when the new interface will rolled out to all users, but it is likely that it will be soon, as WhatsApp usually tests its features on beta versions before releasing them to the public. Users who want to try out the new interface can join the WhatsApp beta program on the Google Play Store or download the APK file from third-party sources. However, they should be aware that beta versions may have bugs or glitches that could affect the performance of the app.
