Talented Folk Singer Asad Abbas Passes Away After Health Struggles

Renowned folk singer Asad Abbas, known for his outstanding performances in Coke Studio Season 6, has tragically passed away due to health complications. The news of his demise was shared on his official Facebook page. Asad Abbas had been battling serious health issues and was undergoing frequent dialysis sessions as a result of double kidney failure.

The heartfelt announcement reads, “May the Almighty Allah grant Asad Abbas eternal peace and a spacious abode. He displayed unwavering resilience till the very end.”

Expressing her sorrow, singer Nimra Rafiq stated, “He fought valiantly until he could fight no more. It pains me that our collective efforts fell short. Rest in peace, dear Asad bhai.”

Asad Abbas stood out in Coke Studio Season 6, performing “Mahi Gal” with Fariha Parvez. This folk song, a tribute to raag Malhar, became a standout track of the season. It also marked the debut of several international artists in the show.

In May, composer Rohail Hyatt appealed for support for critically ill folk singer Asad Abbas from Coke Studio season 6: “Talented folk singer Asad Abbas, part of Coke Studio season 6, needs urgent help. Our thoughts are with him. Thank you.”

In June, actor Adnan Siddiqui took to social media to rally support for Asad’s medical treatment. He wrote, “Asad has enriched our lives with his melodious voice, captivating our hearts with his soulful performances and musical brilliance. Unfortunately, beneath his artistic brilliance, he was grappling with personal challenges that led to severe financial strain.”

Coming from a musical family, Asad Abbas had a strong Pakistani folk music legacy. His grandfather Mohammad Sadiq and Mohammad Iqbal were folk music pioneers on Radio Pakistan. Asad’s brother Ali Abbas and cousin Amanat Ali also excelled in contemporary and folk music.

Asad Abbas’s exceptional vocal talents were celebrated in Mekaal Hasan’s Rivayat series. With a musical journey spanning nearly three decades, he emerged victorious in the prestigious Pakistan Sangeet Icon singing competition and made significant contributions as an artist to the nation.
