KARACHI: The FIFA World Cup Trophy trip will stop in Pakistan on June 7 ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, according to a FIFA official.

The original FIFA trophy tour began Monday in Dubai, where World Cup champions Iker Casillas and Kaka unveiled the original FIFA trophy.

“We can now confirm that the Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour is planning to visit Islamabad on June 7,” a FIFA spokeswoman told Geo.

“The Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour will visit 51 nations and territories, bringing Coca-Cola and FIFA closer to their objective of visiting all 211 FIFA member associations by 2030.

“Following the United Arab Emirates, the tour will make its first stops in Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait. For the first time, the tour will go to all 32 FIFA World Cup qualifying countries, exciting fans around the world through unique consumer experiences “Added the spokesperson.

The FIFA World Cup trophy will visit Pakistan for the second time in two years.

Christian Karembeu, the 2018 World Cup winner from France, brought the trophy to Pakistan and displayed it for admirers, and he will return to the country.

A source stated that a colourful celebration featuring various Pakistani athletes will take place on June 7 in Islamabad to welcome the trophy to the country.

Aisha Sarwari, Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability for The Coca-Cola Company in Pakistan and Afghanistan, confirmed to Geo News that three events have been planned to commemorate the trophy’s stopover in the country, including a welcome ceremony at the airport, an event for partners and stakeholders, and an evening concert.

The trophy will arrive in Pakistan from Uzbekistan and stay for one day before going to Saudi Arabia, according to the organisers.

Because Pakistan is currently suspended from FIFA, it is unclear whether the FIFA-appointed normalisation committee will be directly participating in the trophy tour.
