Weather Update: Heavy Rains Expected in Sindh, Including Karachi, This Week

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather forecast for the current week, predicting varying intensities of rainfall in parts of Sindh, with Karachi affected. These weather conditions expected to bring relief from the scorching heat but may also pose some challenges.

According to the PMD, monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea are currently making their way into the upper and central regions of Pakistan. As we approach July 14, the intensity of these monsoon currents expected to increase, accompanied by a westerly wave in the northern parts of the country.

As a result of these weather patterns, several cities in Sindh, including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, and Mirpur Khas, are likely to experience rain, gusty winds, and thundershowers. Some areas may even witness heavy falls from the evening/night of July 14 until July 16.

In Karachi, the forecast indicates partly cloudy weather with scattered rains during this period. The maximum temperature in the city expected to range between 35-38 degrees Celsius over the next three days. However, the PMD has also cautioned about the possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas due to the anticipated downpour. Additionally, loose structures such as electric poles and solar panels may be at risk of damage caused by dust storms and wind-thunderstorms.

To ensure safety, the general public advised to seek secure places during strong winds and heavy rains. Farmers also encouraged to take into account the weather forecast when planning their agricultural activities.

Meanwhile, Wednesday witnessed hot and humid weather across most parts of the province, including Karachi. Dadu and Rohri were the hottest areas, with temperatures soaring as high as 45 degrees Celsius. In Karachi, the maximum temperature recorded was 35 degrees Celsius, accompanied by an evening relative humidity of 65 percent.

The PMD predicts that the ongoing harsh weather conditions will persist in Sindh, including Karachi, for the next 24 hours. However, relief is on the horizon, as a wet spell expected to commence on Friday, continuing intermittently until Sunday.
