US may approve Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11

An expert panel recommended that the US Food and Drug Administration recommend Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years. The benefits of the shot would lower the risk.

Permission for this age group would be an important regulatory step. The reason is to that up to 28 million children to get vaccination.

The vaccine is expect to available for younger group next week. Food and Drug Administration is not restrict to follow the advice of its external experts. With one absentee, 17 votes cast in favor of this decision.

Advisory panel from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to hold meeting next week. Meeting would address recommendations on vaccine administration if FDA allows shots for this age group. However, the CDC director will make the final call.

Although infant mortality or COVID-19 mortality is relatively lower than in adults. Some develop complications, and the easily transmitted delta variant of the corona virus increases the risk of infection in unvaccinated children.

Pfizer and BioNTech require clearance for a low, 10 mg dose of the vaccine in young children, vs. 30 mg for children 12 years of age or older.
