In the latest episode of a fascinating rivalry, Liverpool thrashed Manchester United twice in the Premier League this season, 5-0 in October 2021 and 4-0 in April 2022.
Liverpool also defeated Manchester United in terms of trophies this season: United went trophy-less, while Liverpool won two and are still in contention for two more.
Both clubs have a long history and have won numerous league and cup titles, with Liverpool adding to their tally this season.
In reality, Liverpool is aiming for a historic quadruple in 2021-22, which would surpass Manchester United’s renowned treble of 1999. Meanwhile, the Red Devils will end the season without a trophy, a disappointing result for a club used to winning trophies.
Here is a list of all the trophies won by Liverpool and Manchester United. After Liverpool’s 2022 FA Cup victory, they’re level at 65-65 if you exclude the second division titles. When you factor in the second division, Liverpool is in the lead.
United has one more league title than Liverpool, but the Reds might draw level if they win their tight race with Manchester City for first place this season.
Liverpool had to wait 30 years to win their most recent league title, which came in 2020, after a sustained run of dominance that put their title count well ahead of United’s.
Despite these two heavyweights’ proclivity for finishing at the top of the table, there haven’t been many seasons in the Premier League era when the north-west titans have faced off in title campaigns.
In one of those instances, the 2008-09 season, United clinched first place on the penultimate weekend of the season, finishing four points ahead of second-placed Liverpool despite losing both at home and away to Liverpool.

FA Cup: The teams have met twice in FA Cup finals. In 1996, United won 1-0 at Wembley, with club legend Eric Cantona scoring the game-winning goal five minutes from time. In the 1977 final, United triumphed 2-1 thanks to James Greenhoff’s goal.
Liverpool defeated Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate in the 2015-16 Europa League quarterfinals. In a 2-0 triumph in the first leg at Anfield, Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino scored, and Anthony Martial gave United hope in the return leg at Old Trafford, only for Philippe Coutinho to regain the lead.
