Pakistani fashion enthusiasts have joined forces to announce the upcoming launch of Pakistan’s first fashion museum. Their goal is to make a significant impact on the global stage. Revealed on Monday, this groundbreaking initiative aims to preserve the nation’s rich creative heritage and showcase it on the global fashion landscape.

The Pakistan Fashion Museum will be unveiled at a UNESCO World Heritage site in Pakistan. It will house an extensive collection of archival fashion photography, videos, and editorial magazines. To ensure success, a distinguished advisory board of fashion experts will contribute their invaluable expertise. Leading this visionary endeavor is Frieha Altaf, a renowned fashion icon with a profound influence on the project.

The museum’s grand opening will include the Muse Gala, a captivating fashion gala and exhibition. With three decades of experience in Pakistan’s fashion industry, Altaf has conceptualized this two-fold venture to celebrate the country’s remarkable fashion journey.

Altaf reflected on the museum’s significance, saying, “Pakistan was once rapidly becoming a fashionable nation. In my 37 years in fashion, I’ve seen remarkable growth. This museum aims to preserve our heritage.”

She said the Pakistan Fashion Museum focuses only on fashion history. Plans for its structure are already in place. Famous architects, along with museum design experts, will create its remarkable design.

To bring this ambitious project to life, Altaf has partnered with two influential fashion icons, Nabila—an image consultant and stylist—and Fifi Haroon—a fashion editor and broadcast journalist. All three individuals have been honored with the prestigious Lux Style Lifetime Achievement Award in fashion. Haroon, with her extensive three-decade experience, highlighted their belief in the talent of Pakistani designers and emphasized that the museum would pay tribute to their remarkable work. She acknowledged a recent stagnation in fashion creativity, attributing it to the industry’s focus on retail and bridal collections.

Haroon expressed that Pakistani designers have crafted numerous original and captivating creations throughout the years. However, the industry’s focus on retail and bridal collections sometimes hampers innovation, excitement, and novelty. To foster unrestricted creativity, the Muse Gala, aligned with the museum’s inauguration, will offer a platform free from commercial pressures.

Haroon stated that the Muse Gala exhibits how designers draw inspiration from celebrity muses, resulting in extraordinary creative expressions. This exemplifies the core of fashion as a philosophy, capturing the influence of celebrities and designers on the fashion stage, and creating timeless and significant fashion moments.

Former model Frieha Altaf, now a PR mogul, announced an annual gala following the Met Gala’s format, with a new theme each year. Altaf plans to expand the museum’s fashion collection annually, aiming to boost Pakistan’s global reputation as a top tourist destination.
