Karachi, Pakistan’s bustling metropolis, is eagerly anticipating a respite from the scorching heat and humidity as the country prepares for the arrival of monsoon rains. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted cloudy weather conditions in the provincial capital, with temperatures expected to hover between 33℃ to 28℃. Additionally, the humidity levels are projected to remain over 60 percent.

On a recent Friday, Karachi experienced a refreshing drizzle, bringing some relief to the city. However, certain areas of the metropolis also witnessed inundation due to the downpour.

The PMD has issued a further advisory predicting additional showers for various parts of Karachi and other cities in the province of Sindh starting from Sunday.

Earlier this week, southeastern regions of the province, including Badin, experienced rain accompanied by wind and thundershowers, with heavy precipitation. On the other hand, Dadu registered the highest temperatures in the province during this period.

The monsoon season has brought about the convergence of monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Simultaneously, a westerly wave is influencing the upper and western parts of Pakistan. The current weather system is expected to persist until July 24th.

While the monsoon rains are crucial for agriculture, ensuring annual rainfall, they also bring challenges such as flash floods and necessitate prompt mass evacuations.

As Karachi prepares for the upcoming monsoon showers, the city is hopeful that the rains will alleviate the oppressive weather conditions and bring much-needed relief to its residents.
