Pakistan’s Removal from FATF Grey List Boosts Economy by 10 Billion Rupees

In a significant turn of events, Pakistan has been removed from the FATF grey list, resulting in a substantial financial gain of over 10 billion rupees for the country. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) of Pakistan played a crucial role in this achievement by sharing sensitive financial reports and intelligence with various anti-money laundering agencies and intelligence bodies.

The IB’s efforts led to the identification of 187 suspicious currency exchange transactions across Pakistan, totaling billions of rupees. This step highlights Pakistan’s commitment to combatting financial irregularities and potential money laundering activities.

During operations in line with “Important Financial Security Operations 2022-23,” IB shared vital information with agencies like the Financial Monitoring Unit, FIA, State Bank of Pakistan, and others. This information contributed to the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorist organizations.

Furthermore, the IB’s collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies led to the recovery of more than 47.8 billion rupees, which were being misused for money laundering and other illicit activities.

Notably, operations were carried out to prevent the smuggling of gold, jewelry, and weapons across the border. These efforts ensured that valuable resources remained within Pakistan’s borders.

IB’s actions also extended to curbing smuggling in other sectors. A total of 90,147 metric tons of Afghan smuggled wheat was recovered, which helped stabilize food prices and strengthen the economy.

In addition to these accomplishments, the IB’s intelligence played a pivotal role in identifying corrupt individuals within the food department. As a result, 259 corrupt officials were held accountable for their actions.

The success story continued with operations against Chinese hoarders, leading to the recovery of 12,409 metric tons of smuggled sugar. This demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations.
