Tecno Phantom X2 Launched With Unique Retractable Camera

The Phantom smartphone series from Tecno has returned with new camera technologies along with a more powerful chipset. The Phantom X2 and X2 Pro are the names of the two new phones, although only one of them has the world’s first retractable portrait camera.

These phones are strikingly similar, but they are different in terms of camera functionality.

Body and Display:

The X2 series increases on the original Phantom lineup by featuring a 120Hz AMOLED panel (up from 90Hz). The diagonal size of the screen is 6.8 inches, and the resolution is 1080p. Curved screens, razor-thin bezels, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus protection are showcased on both phones. The fingerprint sensor is located beneath the screen.

The rear has an unusual camera setup, with two major lenses and a third relatively small sensor next to them, right smack in the middle of the phone, providing it a polarizing appearance.

Power and Processor:

The two phones are powered by MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9000 processor. It is not the most recent, but it is still a 4nm chip from TSMC’s foundry, using cutting-edge technology (Cortex-X2 primary CPU core, three A710, and a Mali-G710 MC10 GPU), which is far superior to the Helio G95 used in the original Phantom X. The X2 phones have LPDDR5X RAM (8GB for the vanilla, 12GB for the Pro) and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. Unfortunately, both phones are limited to Android 12 out of the box.

Camera:

The main camera installations on the two phones are vastly different. The Phantom X2 Pro, as previously stated is the only camera that has a retractable portrait lens. In addition to being a gimmick, it keeps the phone thin by using a methodology that expanded the lens forward when needed and retracts it when finished, making it ideal for all kinds of inappropriate jokes.

On top of that, there’s a 50MP main sensor with a bright aperture that lets in plenty of light. Because of the shallow depth of field, natural bokeh should be possible, which is perfect for portrait shots. It also has a 50MP sensor, but it’s a telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom. Finally, there is a 13MP ultrawide camera with a macro mode. This is the same as the non-professional version.

When it comes to the non-pro model, it has a fairly basic camera setup that includes a 64MP main camera, the above- mentioned ultrawide unit, and a 2MP depth sensor. They share the same 32MP selfie camera.

Battery:

All these smartphone are powered by a massive 5,160 mAh battery. It charges at 45W, which is faster than the 4,700mAh battery in the Phantom X, which charges at 33W.

Colors:

The Phantom X2 Pro can be purchased in Mars Orange (as well as an Eco-Friendly edition with recycled plastic for the back cover) and Stardust Grey. The vanilla X2 is also available in Stardust Grey and Moonlight Silver.

Pricing information will be available in the coming weeks, when the two phones go on sale.
