Following Biden, the Italian Prime Minister visits Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President

Italian Prime minister heading to Kyiv on Tuesday to talk with Ukrainian President Volodymyr. PM Meloni who took charge of the office in October wants to have a visit to Ukraine and earlier this month agreed to send a mobile surface-to-air missile system that it has jointly developed with France.

“We have provided financial, military, humanitarian and civil support” to Kyiv and Ukrainian can certainly count on Italy because we have shown since the start that we were here for Kyiv and we will continue to be here,” Meloni said at a press conference in Warsaw on Monday.

Meanwhile, former premier Silvio Berlusconi whose forza Italy party is the junior partner in the coalition has sought to shift blame for the war away from Moscow, most recently earlier this week when he criticized Zelensky. JOE Biden’s visit to Ukraine

Mr. Bidens first trip to Ukraine as president came days before the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion. He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had been “doing wrong” to think Russia could outlast Ukraine and its Western allies. He met Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and the pair visited a memorial to soldiers who have died in the nine years Russia annexed Crimea and its proxy forces captured parts of the eastern Donbas region. He had taken 10 hours train journey from Poland to reach Kyiv in secret later returning to Poland.

Russia informed about the trip a few hours before President Biden’s departure for change purposes. Antony Blinken announces a new package of security assistance for Ukraine valued at $450m including ammunition for heavy artillery and the himars rocket system, javelin missiles, and air surveillance radars.

The US will also provide Kyiv with an extra $10m in emergency assistance to maintain Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. New restrictions against individuals and companies that are trying to escape or backfill the Russian war machine will also announced later this week.
