“New policy doesn’t affect privacy of messages”: WhatsApp issues clarification amid ‘rumours’

WhatsApp has clarified on its new privacy policy saying the update does not affect privacy of messages with friends or family, and also lists information "not shared with Facebook". After widespread criticism from users across the world, WhatsApp on Tuesday issued a clarification regarding its updated privacy policy with messaging app stating that the update will not affect user's private communication with "friends or family".

We want to address some rumors and be 100% clear we continue to protect your private messages with end-to-end encryption,” it said in a statement.

It further shared a list of information "NOT shared with Facebook".

·       WhatsApp cannot see your private messages or hear your calls and neither can Facebook.

·       WhatsApp does keep logs of who everyone is messaging or calling.

·       WhatsApp cannot see your shared location and neither can Facebook.

·       WhatsApp does not share your contacts with Facebook.

·       WhatsApp groups remain private.

·       You can set your messages to disappear.

·       You can download your data.
