Sega and Microsoft partners to produce large-scale global games as part of the Super-Game project. The strategic alliance between the two will allow Sega to use the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Metaverses are quite in right now, and Sega seems to be creating its own with Tech giant Microsoft. Sega-developed games designed specifically for Azure servers could emerge on Xbox Game Pass in the coming years.

The Japanese-origin entertainment company Sega claims that the project is critical to its medium- to long-term strategy. It will result in the development of games with a global online component. The games will follow the concept of Metaverse. It will create an ecosystem where players can find all their favorite brands and characters integrated into a hub.

The Super game project plans to combine Sega’s most popular franchises, such as Total War, Football Manager, and Sonic, as well as bringing back dormant classics like Crazy Taxi and Virtual Fighter. They also hope to optimize their business, which includes mobile games and amusement machines to make it more profitable.  Sega is a prolific developer of pachinko machines for gaming. It has signaled its desire to broaden the appeal of its video games while abandoning the console industry after back to back disappointments.

After Sega and Microsoft’s strategic alliance announcement, Sega’s stock soared nearly 6% in Tokyo trading on Monday. The Japanese entertainment company forms an strategic agreement with Microsoft, the manufacturer of the Xbox, to develop video games on the Azure cloud platform. Cloud gaming eliminates the need for bulky hardware, but it does necessitate a fast internet connection.  Japan is the world’s third-largest gaming market and key industry innovation.
