25 years in Football career, Mark Lawrenson says his final goodbyes

Bol News  |  May 15, 2022

After 25 years in front of the camera, Mark Lawrenson said his goodbyes to BBC’s Football Focus today. His last appearance on the show was today (May 14), just before Liverpool’s FA Cup final vs Chelsea.

Lawrenson began his professional football career in the 1970s and 1980s. Liverpool won the League Championship and the League Cup in the former defender’s first season with the club, in 1981-82. He took over as manager of Oxford United in 1988 and later Peterborough United.

The football and broadcasting veteran made his final appearance on the show today, but not before his co-hosts said him farewell and played a montage of his greatest performances. The VT featured Lawrenson’s trademark wit and good nature, as well as some memorable events like when Tony Blair appeared on the show.

It also featured a rerun of Lawrence’s 2002 bet on the show that Bolton would be relegated from the Premiership. Lawrenson showed off his famed moustache after Sam Allardyce’s players stayed up late.
