Karachi Jinnah Hospital Gynaecology Department Suspends Operations: What to Do?

Hamariweb  |  Oct 13, 2023

Karachi Jinnah Hospital’s Gynaecology Department is experiencing disruptions in its daily operations due to a critical staff shortage. This government-run hospital, the largest in the city, typically handles a substantial load of up to 120 delivery cases each day. The shortage primarily affects paramedical staff, leading to the temporary suspension of routine procedures within the Gynaecology Ward.

Patients who would typically seek care at this department are now being encouraged to consider private medical facilities throughout the city. The hospital administration has cited a scarcity of doctors, nursing personnel, and consultants as the root of the issue, assuring patients that they are making diligent efforts to address this shortfall and ensure uninterrupted service provision.

Meanwhile, in a noteworthy development, the federal government has once again transferred control of three prominent hospitals in Karachi back to the Sindh government. This decision was finalized in October of the previous year, following a transition of power to the PTI government.

The federal government officially endorsed the request to relinquish control of these three significant healthcare institutions to the provincial government. Consequently, Jinnah Hospital, NICVD, and NICH Karachi will be placed under the stewardship of the Sindh government on a 25-year lease.

This latest development marks a significant shift in the management of healthcare services in Karachi and has potential implications for the quality and accessibility of medical care in the region.
