Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and it comes with some noteworthy upgrades over its predecessor, the Z Flip 4. The two major improvements are the Flex Hinge and the Flex Window, which aim to address the main drawbacks of the previous model, such as the gap when closed and the undersized cover display.

Flex Hinge for a Seamless Experience

The newly introduced Flex Hinge allows the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to close completely flat, a first for the Z Flip series. This modification not only enhances the device’s aesthetics but also makes it slimmer. Additionally, it effectively blocks pocket dust and other particles from entering and potentially damaging the main screen inside.

Bigger and Better Displays

The primary display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a 6.7-inch 1080p panel with a 22:9 aspect ratio and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz. Samsung claims that this display is 25% more scratch-resistant than the previous version, providing a more durable user experience.

The outer display, now called the Flex Window, has undergone significant growth and now measures 3.4 inches diagonally. With a resolution of 720 x 748 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz, this larger display enables users to interact with widgets, control music, toggle settings, and even respond to texts using a full QWERTY keyboard. The viewfinder for taking selfies from the main camera has also been enlarged, making it more convenient for users.

Powerful Internals and Software

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM. It offers two storage options: 256GB and 512GB. However, there is no memory card slot for storage expansion, so users will have to choose their preferred storage capacity wisely.

The device runs on Android 13L, a version specifically optimized for folding screens. Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1 skin adds further customization and enhancements to the user experience.

Camera Upgrades

The camera setup on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 remains unchanged from its predecessor. It features a primary 12MP module with a 1/1.76-inch sensor and large 1.8µm pixels, equipped with Dual Pixel autofocus (AF) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Alongside, there’s a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 123° lens. For selfies, users can utilize the main cameras even when the device is closed, but there’s also a dedicated 10MP interior selfie camera for more traditional selfies.

Battery and Pricing

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 retains the same 3,700mAh battery capacity as its predecessor. It supports 25W wired charging, capable of replenishing 50% of the battery in about half an hour, and 15W wireless charging. Reverse wireless charging at 4.5W is also available.

Regarding pricing, Samsung has discontinued the 128GB base model and now offers the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a starting price of £1,050 in the UK. This starting configuration includes 256GB of internal storage, offering users more storage space than before.

Availability in Pakistan

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will also be available in Pakistan, offering consumers a chance to experience the latest folding phone from Samsung. Local pricing in Pakistan is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be in line with the international market pricing, making it a premium offering for tech enthusiasts in the country.

With its innovative design and upgraded features, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 aims to deliver a seamless and engaging user experience to folding phone enthusiasts around the world, including those in Pakistan.
